About This Route
NC-28 hugs the edge of Fontana Lake through some of the most remote and beautiful terrain in the Southern Appalachians — barely any traffic, no guardrails, and views that'll stop you cold. We run it as an overnight out of Murphy, looping back through the Nantahala Gorge and Franklin. If you know, you know.
