About This Route
The Tail of the Dragon gets all the fame — but the Back of the Dragon in Tazewell County, Virginia is 32 miles of sweeping Appalachian curves with almost no traffic and scenery that rivals anything in the Southeast. We make a full two-day mission out of it: up through the Carolinas and into Virginia, overnight, then back through Asheville and the Nantahala Gorge. Bucket list.
